GABI VEIGA PARTICIPA DE AUDIÊNCIA PÚBLICA EM BELO HORIZONTE PELA DEFESA DOS ANIMAIS

No dia 30/11 Gabi Veiga foi convidada a compor a mesa na Audiência Pública na Assembléia Legislativa de Minas Gerais para discutir sobre o projeto de Lei N 4.548, de 1998. Este PL foi escrito pelo ex-deputado José Tomáz  Nonô, que alegava que o artigo 32 da Lei 9.605 deveria ser retirado, pois a "cultura brasileira" deveria ser preservada e este artigo a colocava num estado vulnerável. O artigo 32 diz: "Praticar ato de abuso, maus tratos, ferir ou mutilar animais domésticos, domesticados, silvestres ou exóticos".

José Tomáz Nonô tinha fortes relações com rodeios e vaquejadas da região nordestina do Brasil, o que nos deixa em dúvida sobre suas reais pretenções perante  este PL.

Na audiência pública, estavam presentes: Dep. Durval - PT, Dep. Feliciano - PV, Delegado Afrânio Lucio, Franklin - assessor do Sec. Meio Ambiente, Edna - Pres. Liga dos Direitos Animais, Luiza Mell, Laerte Levai, Koji - Coletivo Abolicionista Gato Preto e a “artivista” Gabi Veiga,  representou os coletivos ativistas da cidade de São Paulo, o Teatro Mágico e o Hábitos e Habitat. 

O maioria das falas foram voltadas para o lado jurídico do assunto, e Luiza Mell fez um apelo para que fosse encaminhado um documento para os parlamentares que votarão no PL.

Gabi questionou o significado e sentido da palavra cultura, disse não entender como algo tão violento como rodeios e vaquejadas possam ser tão protegidos a ponto de não proteger mais as vidas ali envolvidas e questionou a platéia com a seguinte pergunta: "Que tipo de sociedade estamos querendo desenvolver promovendo eventos que envolvem violência?" Disse achar este PL um ato anti-civilizatório e anti-educativo, um retrocesso de todas as vitórias que temos pelos animais, que ficarão desprotegidos.

Deu o exemplo do Teatro Mágico e do Hábitos e Habitat, dois projetos que usam a cultura como ferramenta de conscientização. Disse também que o rodeio não é uma cultura brasileira e sim norte-americana. Finalizou dizendo que temos que cultivar a Cultura da NÃO-violência e dando o recado de que no primeiro show do Brasil pelos direitos dos animais, estará presente  com o Teatro Mágico.

O evento obteve sucesso, um documento (uma moção de repúdio ao PL) foi feito e encaminhado para os parlamentares como forma de pressão do estado de Minas Gerais contra este projeto de Lei 4.548.

Muitos ativistas e educadores estavam presentes na audiência e se manifestaram contra o PL também. Tudo pela luta da libertação animal.
